What makes a great self-employed estate agent?
In simple terms, you need three things:

No one is chasing you for targets. You set the pace.
2. Self-belief
You will have days where a deal falls apart, a valuation goes cold, or a client tests your patience. You need the mindset to stay steady and keep moving forward.
3. A willingness to learn and improve
Self-employed agents who do well are not “lucky”. They improve their skills, their systems and their service.
You do not need to be perfect.
You just need to be committed.

“The decision to move from an employed role with a well-known high street brand to The Property Cloud was a no brainer for me personally. The hardest part was funding. Knowing I would need to wait for completions before I saw any income. Once I had that sorted, there was no looking back.
The pros always outweighed the cons. When I was employed, I was no longer enjoying the job. I was bogged down with admin and office politics, which isn’t what I love about being an estate agent. At the time I had a one-year-old daughter and I was missing important milestones. That was the turning point.
I looked into several brokerage style models, but once I spoke with Aaron and heard why he started The Property Cloud, I knew it was the right path. We had a lot in common. He understood exactly how I felt because he had been there himself. The company vision and values also aligned with mine.
Onboarding was straightforward. Aaron took time to get me set up properly, and it helped that The Property Cloud was already an established brand with a team behind it. Knowing there were staff who could help with booking viewings and valuations was reassuring when I was entering new territory.
The first few months are the hardest, but also exciting. The hunger you feel when you’re building something for yourself is different. Once the listings started coming, it was refreshing working one-to-one with clients. I’ve built proper friendships with some of mine. We speak on WhatsApp most days. Being part of someone’s home moving journey and seeing how happy they are on completion is a great feeling.

Financially it took a couple of years to get to the level I was earning in my previous managerial role, but it’s only improving as the business grows and referrals increase. Money wasn’t my only motivator. Work-life balance was the biggest thing for me and that’s where I’ve seen the biggest improvement.
I spend more quality time with family and friends, and I don’t have to say no to things because I’m stuck in an office. I have time for hobbies and time to reset. If you’re considering the transition, make sure you’ve got the finances to get through the early months and you won’t regret it.”
